The Subscription Services products (see panel on the right) are paid per month or annually and are web based which means that you need to log on to a web site which runs all of the software.  The sound file are stored on their web site. 

Recording Software Included/Built in
Most packages come either with built in recording software or separate recording software.  If you are interested in one of the cheaper packages that does not come with either you can use the sound recorder program that comes with Microsoft Windows. Or for a more comprehensive package you can download audacity for free.

Import MP3 or WAV files
This option allows you to select an audio file that you have previously recorded to create your web site audio button.  If the software does not have this option you can only record using the built in recording software. This can be limiting.

MP3 Embedded in swf file
If the program has this feature the MP3 file is embedded into the .swf and does not need to be uploaded.  If the program does not have this feature you will need to upload the mp3 file as well as the .swf file. 

Uses JavaScript
If you use a JavaScript, your mp3 or swf file name can not be seen in your web page source code so it would be difficult for anyone to download them.  Also by using JavaScript it fixes the Internet Explorer April 2006 update which makes users click on Flash objects to active it, making it necessary to click audio buttons twice to play them.  By using JavaScript only one click is needed.

Player / Button Style and Colours
This shows the number of different styles and colours available for the buttons (sometimes called players) that each program creates.  if there are 2 numbers this means that each style can be created in each of the colours.  if there is just one number you do not have a choice of colours, there may be 4 or 5 buttons in the same style but different colours. (16 m = 16 million colours, you can pick any colour for your player / buttons)

Can change background colour from white.
Most button styles will have a white background which is fine if your web page is white, but if you use a coloured background you may get a white border round your button.  If you are using coloured pages I recommend you use Sonic Memo which is the only program that allows you to change the button background to any colour.  Web Audio Plus gives you a choice of 48 background colours which may match your page.

Multi Track Recording. (Jukebox)
If a program has this option you can add multiple tracks to one button giving a jukebox effect.

Background Music.
Music is provided with the package.  Flash Audio Wizard and Total Web Audio provide editing software so you can mix the music yourself.  Impact Web Audio and Web Audio Creator come with background music built in.
